CONGRATULATIONS AJ ULIBARRI ON BEING THE 2014 KEN CRAIG AWARD RECIIPIENT
A letter from the Craigs:
The Ken Craig award is given annually to the NMJF player which most exhibits those characteristics that Ken Craig embodied- Fair play, good sportsmanship, and a never quit attitude along with someone that works extremely hard on and off the field.
Ken would have loved to be honored in this way by NMJF, and Ken would have been especially proud to honor this this year’s award recipient-AJ Ulibarri.
AJ you worked extremely hard both on and off the field as your school, family and coaches have attested. You have a never quit attitude on the field and your teammates agreed that you are a positive role model for the team. I especially like your faith and belief in God, so much so, that you sent a special prayer request at church “to win games and be safe playing football”. The thing that struck me the most, and the reason that you stood out above the other nominees, was your selflessness and compassion for others. Your mom told us the stories of how you make the elderly people laugh while she cuts their hair. And that you came home very upset because one of your team mates brothers was in ICU. Then you asked your mom to help you pray for him….
Many great kids were nominated for this award but you won! In your note that you sent to our family, you wrote that your coaches tell you to look in the mirror, and at the end of the day you have to be able to say that you did your very best…..Now you can look in the mirror and see someone that not only tried his hardest on the field, but also someone that excels off the field as well and is a role model for others in the league. Congratulations AJ!
